People

Who are we?
The People Procurement team is based in ASDA House and sits within Central Buying. The team is made up with Sue Gerrard and Peter Donaldson.

What do we do?
We manage the procurement within People including creative and design, training and development. Our function is to ensure that all People Development suppliers to ASDA are authorised, have a contract in place and are providing both world class prices and service levels.

Engaging with our Customers.
We ensure that all requirements whether it be goods or services are supported with a detailed specification, alternative suppliers are found in order to benchmark thoroughly and all current pricing matrices are available. Results of benchmarking and tender processes are shared with the respective Stakeholders whom make all business decisions; this is not a Central Buying function. We then pull together a contract with the support of our Legal team and report any commercial savings to Finance.

Marketing

Who are we?
The Marketing Procurement team is based in ASDA House and sits within Central Buying. The team is made up with Sue Gerrard and Simon Fern.

What do we do?
We manage the procurement within Marketing including creative, design, media agencies, point of sale, brochures, fliers,   magazines, sampling, outdoor advertising and radio.

Our function is to ensure that all Marketing suppliers to ASDA are authorised, have a contract in place and are providing both world class prices and service levels.

Engaging with our Customers.

  • We ensure that all requirements whether it be goods or services are supported with a detailed specification, alternative suppliers are found in order to benchmark thoroughly and all current pricing matrices are available.
  • Results of benchmarking and tender processes are shared with the respective Stakeholders whom make all business decisions; this is not a Central Buying function.
  • We then pull together a contract with the support of our Legal team and report any commercial savings to Finance.

Loss Prevention

Who are we?
The Loss Prevention Procurement team is based in ASDA House and sits within Central Buying. Sue Gerrard is the key contact.

What do we do?
Sue manages the procurement within Loss Prevention including Guarding, radios, safers and tags

Our function is to ensure that all Loss Prevention suppliers to ASDA are authorised, have a contract in place and are providing both world class prices and service levels.

  • We ensure that all requirements whether it be goods or services are supported with a detailed specification, alternative suppliers are found in order to benchmark thoroughly and all current pricing matrices are available.

Distribution

Who are we?
Central Buying manage the procurement and sourcing for several key areas of Goods Not For Resale spend within ASDA. One of these areas is Distribution - Chris Woodcock is the buyer for this area.

What do we do?

  • Central Buying have responsibility for sourcing and contracting for most consumables and services for all Distribution Centres. These include secondary packaging (tapes, corrugate, stretchwrap etc) and stationery as well as key services such as cleaning, catering and recruitment.
  • Our function is to ensure that all suppliers are financial and ethically approved and can provide goods and services at the most cost effective price for the business.
  • All new Distribution suppliers must be approved by Central Buying before being issued with a supplier number.

Our Internal Stakeholders are the Distribution Centres and the Distribution Senior Team, based in ASDA House.

Consumables

Who are we?
The Consumables team is based in ASDA House and sits within Central Buying. The team is made up Adam Davies, Amy Crowther, Damon Richards and Charmaine Zhou.

What do we do?

  • We manage the procurement and supply of consumable items into all of our stores throughout the country, working to provide our customers and colleagues with the best products at the lowest cost.
  • We work hard to make sure that we have the most efficient supply chain, and constantly strive to build a responsible and effective supply base
  • We challenge specification and search out new innovation to ensure that all products are fit for purpose, meet our environmental credentials, and where possible provide ASDA with a source of competitive advantage
  • We work closely with our Trading teams to support their customer strategies, and with our Retail team, constantly driving to improve the service we give to stores

Engaging with our Customers.

  • Store consumables cover everything from carrier bags, reusable bags, toilet rolls, cleaning products, stationery, and in-store produced product packaging
  • These items are owned by two teams:
    • Store consumables - Retail (our stores)
    • In-store produced product packaging - Trading Floor (goods for resale buyers)
  • The Consumables team work alongside these two departments and are responsible for getting the best commercial deal for all products.

Packaging

Who are we?
The packaging team is based in ASDA House and sits within Central Buying. The team is made up with Shane Monkman Greg Alder and Vicki Woods.

What do we do?

  • We take our responsibility to reduce waste seriously. That’s why we’re working closely with our suppliers to dramatically cut the amount of packaging we use on our products. We prefer to show our customers the product rather than the packaging.
  • We have embarked on a complete review of all our own label packaging. The savings we make will help significantly reduce the amount of household rubbish our customers have to throw away each year.
  • In 2008 we cut own label food packaging by 25% removing 47,000 tonnes of excess packaging.
  • In 2009 we will reduce even more packaging by taking out an additional 5%.
  • We ensure that whenever possible all of ASDA’s packaging is recyclable and all our paper is sourced from sustainable forests.
